AI’s definitely changing art, no argument there, but every time the discussion comes up, it just gets boiled down to “will it replace artists” and the conversation dies. “Replace” is way too blunt. What I see more is a shift in how work gets divided: the early-stage stuff like concept exploration, bulk sketching, finding reference directions—AI handles that really well.
But what actually makes a piece hit you emotionally is the choices, the mood, that hard-to-define judgment call. The tool can’t give you that; it just spits out endless average solutions.
The tools change, so the skill barrier shifts too—used to be about hand technique, now it’s more about taste and ideas. What’s really getting hit is the work that relies purely on muscle memory, not art itself.
