Yo, so Tencent's Hunyuan 3D generation model is getting used to help 3D printing companies do some next-level innovation in their workflow.

Just saw a Xinhua article about “AI+” — it mentioned Tencent’s Hunyuan 3D generation model is rolling out to 3D printing companies to help them innovate their business models. The article didn’t go into details, but this hits home for us indie game artists — the 3D generation model is extending from game assets to physical printing, so the same generation capability can be used for both ends.

The most labor-intensive part of 3D printing has always been modeling. If the generation model can massively compress the pipeline from idea to printable model, small workshops and manufacturers are gonna have a whole new way of operating. Not sure how far Hunyuan’s model has come in terms of printability (like clean topology, direct slicing support, etc.). Anyone in the know, share your thoughts.

The topology from generative models is usually pretty messy. If you try to print it straight out, you’re probably looking at a ton of cleanup.

The real bottleneck for manufacturers is printability. Looks are secondary—whether it can be sliced is the make-or-break factor.

I love this approach — one workflow that handles both game assets and physical prints.

Anyone got the actual output quality for Hunyuan3D?

Same question — is the topology clean?

The manufacturers are really locking down printability—whether you can actually slice it is the real deal-breaker. Looking good is just secondary.
