I always thought generating images had to rely on cloud subscriptions, but recently I found out you can run it locally on your phone. Off Grid, this open-source app—once you download the model, it never needs to go online again. Prompts and images stay on your phone, which is perfect for someone like me who doesn’t want to upload product selection ideas to someone else’s server.
Requirements aren’t high: 6GB RAM and a recent ARM64 chip will do. Pure CPU takes about 30-40 seconds per image, but with an NPU like Snapdragon 8 Gen1 or above, it drops to 5-10 seconds—huge difference. Storage needs some room: compressed models are around 1GB, full precision ones over 4GB.
When generating, you can watch the image refine step by step from noise in real time—512x512 with 20 steps, way better than staring at a loading screen. Even without internet on the go, I can whip up a few product concept images, good enough for emergencies.
