Three model updates crammed into one day: Tencent dropped its open-source flagship Hy4preview, Midjourney shipped the V8.2 image editing model, and Google put out Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash. A preview suffix usually means it’s not locked down yet — the API and weights will probably still shift, so don’t rush it into production. Midjourney adding editing finally patches an old weak spot; it’s always been great at generating and painful at editing. The Flash line has always been about speed and cost, way more practical than the flagship for batch jobs. Of the three, the open-source one is what I care about most — being able to self-host and fine-tune is a completely different game from only being able to call an API.
